New Standard Residential Electric Rate

Effective last year, PSEG Long Island's standard residential electric rate is our Time-of-Day (TOD), Off-Peak rate. We have begun moving most residential accounts to this new rate, which will continue throughout 2025.* If your account is eligible for this move, we will notify you well in advance.

This will not affect certain account types, including those:

  • Currently on a time-based rate
  • On our heating rate (580)
  • Enrolled in our Critical Care program (life support equipment)

Saving with TOD: Choose "Off-Peak" hours to do chores that consume a lot of energy.

TOD prices vary based on the time of day you use energy, giving you more control over your energy costs. Just like riding the LIRR costs less at certain times, you can now get that benefit when using power.

Off-peak hours:

  1. Before 3 PM or after 7PM on weekdays.
  2. At any time on weekends and federal holidays.

These hours offer a discount compared to the traditional "flat" rate, which has the same price 24 hours a day. In fact, the TOD discount applies to 88% of all the hours in a year.

Simple steps, like running the dishwasher after dinner or doing laundry on the weekend, can save you money TOD. If you already do that, the savings are automatic.

You Have Options

If your account is eligible for TOD, prior to the change you can:

  1. Voluntarily enroll early in the standard Time-of-Day, Off-Peak Rate.
  2. Voluntarily enroll in the alternate TOD, Super Off-Peak Rate with overnight hours discounted up to 40% off the flat rate. It's perfect for overnight charging of electric vehicles.
  3. Stay on your current rate.

To see which rate is best for you, go to the online Rate Comparison Tool in My Account, which provides an analysis of your account based on your actual energy use.

GIVE IT A TRY - RISK-FREE

Eligible customers receive Guaranteed Bill Protection - you can try TOD now with nothing to lose for up to a year.* If you save money, you win. If you would have paid less on the flat rate, we will automatically refund the difference to your account.
