Seeking sustainable solutions, the Glen Cove School District collaborated with Ecosystems Energy Services and partnered with PSEG Long Island Energy Efficiency experts to identify how they could save during the school year. A district-wide energy efficiency challenge brought safe, smart tech choices that provided savings.
PSEG Long Island delivered $89,000 in rebates via the PSEG Long Island commercial efficiency program. The incentives helped fund 17 district-wide projects that incorporated creative solutions for energy savings and upgrades including:
- Outdoor flood & wall lighting improvements and energy-saving LEDs to replace dated fluorescents.
- Making use of “idle-time set back” equipment to reduce carbon emissions and expenses by drawing minimal energy use during downtimes, such as evenings and weekends.
- Smart Tools: Installed BERT* technology for advanced plug load control in key common administrative offices and classrooms. This eliminates idle power to devices such as smart boards, printers, monitors, and copiers when not in use.
- Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controls installed on the boiler feedwater pumps to optimize efficiency and reduce wear and tear.
PSEG Long Island’s efficiency program helped pay down the costs of a well-developed plan for energy savings that goes back to the district for future projects or general cost reduction. With a “right fit” efficiency planning strategy, it’s a win for the school district and the community.
