Time Your Savings Series:
Know your times
Time is your friend, especially with our standard Time-of-Day, Off-Peak Rate. Just choose to do chores that require a lot of electricity during off-peak hours. Off-peak hours make up more than 88% of the hours in the year. That’s a lot of time to save.
Off-Peak vs. Peak
Here’s a breakdown of off-peak and peak hours:
Peak hours: Only on weekdays from 3 PM to 7 PM. That’s just four hours a day from Monday to Friday only. This is when the cost of electricity is higher. To save the most money, try to reduce electricity use as much as possible during peak hours. For example, shift the use of major appliances and other large energy consumers to off-peak hours.
Time-of-Day, Super Off-Peak Rate
The alternate Time-of-Day, Super Off-Peak Rate gives you the benefit of a deeper discount during super off-peak hours from 10 PM to 6 AM, seven days a week. This is when rates are lowest, with a 40% discount off the flat rate. However, with this rate, off-peak hours during the summer are slightly higher than with the flat rate.
Peak Hours: Shift and Save
We all have to live our lives so it’s not about turning everything off during peak hours. It’s about shifting use of large energy consumers, like your dishwasher, clothes dryer and EV charger, to off-peak hours. If laundry day is on a weekday, plan for the dryer to finish by 3 PM. And for your dishwasher, run it after 7 PM. If you have an EV, charge it any time after 7 PM.
When it comes to Time-of-Day, time is on your side.
